It is 1923. When agrarian injustices result in poverty under American-ruled Philippines, the dormant revolutionary “pulajanes” resurface to stop the abuses of landowners, under the able leadership of Kapitan Pablo. To legendariske Hollywood-stjerner, Oscar-vinnerne Jimmy Stewart og Henry Fonda, drar til et oppgjør på hovedgaten i byen Firecreek. Deltidssjeriffen Johnny Cobb (Stewart) vil heller bli hos sin gravide kone og ta seg av ranchen sin, men en morderisk gjeng som ledes av en bitter fredløs med navn Larkin (Fonda) har kommet til byen. Cobb forsøker å finne en fredelig løsning mens Larkin og hans gjeng terroriserer folket, men før eller senere må man vise krefter, blod vil gytes – og enten Cobb eller Larkin vil dø i Firecreek.
