Historien er en herlig roadmovie om John og Ella, begge i åttiårene. Med John som sjåfør og Ella som hans copilot, kjører de den gamle bobilen fra '78 langs Route 66 med kursen mot Disneyland, på jakt etter en fortid de begge har vanskelig for å huske. John og Ella Robina har hatt et fantastisk liv sammen i mer enn femti år. Nå er de i åttiårene, lider Ella av kreft og har valgt å avslutte behandlingen. John har Alzheimers. De lengter etter et siste eventyr for å unnslippe både voksne barn og leger som tilsynelatende styrer livene deres fullstendig. Basert på boken av Michael Zadoorian som heter 'En siste ferie' på norsk.
