En aften i operaen
De legendariske Marx-brødrene tar på morsomt, musikalsk vis selvopptatthet, pompøsitet og ufølsomhet på kornet, og det hele avsluttes med en manisk sceneopptreden. Milano. Den lurvete arrangøren Otis B. Driftwood (Groucho Marx) garanterer sin sponsor (Margaret Dumont) en plass i sosieteten hvis hun finansierer en opera. Planen avhenger av signeringen av den egoistiske tenoren Rodolfo Lassparri (Walter Woolf King), men Driftwood møter sitt motstykke i talentmanageren Fiorello (Chico Marx), som representerer "verdens største tenor" - den ukjente Ricardo Baroni (Allan Jones), som også er forelsket i operaens sopran, Rosa (Kitty Carlisle). Da Driftwoods avtale faller gjennom, må arrangøren, sponsoren, tenorene, sopranen og mange flere foreta en helsprø krysning av Atlanterhavet med dampskip. Metropolitan Opera i New York blir aldri den samme etter at Marx-brødrene har satt opp Il Travatore i The Big Apple.

Flesh and the Devil
Greta Garbo lyser opp skjermen i rollen som gjorde henne til en stjerne – som en kvinne med en skjønnhet så slående som fører menn til sin undergang i den klassiske filmen Flesh and the Devil. Den østerrikske militæroffiseren Leo von Selleting får et meget kort glimt av Felicitas som står ved en trikkestall, men visjonen – som er som etset i minnet hans – forandrer livet hans for alltid. Når Leo treffer Felicitas noen år senere kan han ikke la være å forelske seg, men vet ikke at hun allerede er gift. Når Leo dreer Felicitas' mann i en duell, takker offiseren ja til en stilling i Afrika i stedet for å avsløre årsaken til duellen og ødelegge damens ære. Leo ber sin barndomsvenn, Ulrich (Lars Hanson), om å passe på den unge enken – en anmodning som gjør at Ulrich blir fanget i Felicitas' lidenskapelige nett, og skaper et kjærlighetsdrama som kun kan ende i døden i en av de mest berømte filmklimaksene noensinne.

Leo and Ulrich are life long friends. Home, on leave from their military training, Leo sees the beautiful Felicitas at the railroad station. Awed by her beauty, they meet again at the ball and quietly leave together. In her room, her husband, about whom she has neglected to inform Leo, comes in and challenges Leo to a duel. The duel is done, the Count is killed, and Felicitas is a widow. Leo, however, is 'requested' to serve 5 years in Africa and he tells Ulrich to watch over Felicitas while he is gone. After 3 years, Ulrich is able to get a pardon for Leo, and all that Leo thinks about on the way home is Felicitas. When he arrives, he learns that Felicitas has married Ulrich. Felicitas likes that Ulrich is rich and she never told Ulrich the truth about Leo and her. Leo is crushed and does not visit them which saddens Ulrich as he does not know the reason why. Leo tries to stay away from her, but Felicitas uses every opportunity to tempt him to return to her as her lover.
