In this acclaimed, tense look at the world of Olympic skiing, Robert Redford is a ruthlessly ambitious skier going for the gold with an underdog American team in Europe. Gene Hackman provides tough support as the coach who tries to temper the upstart’s narcissistic drive for glory. It’s a vivid character portrait that brings the viewer directly into the mind of the competitor.
