Dharti is a family drama set in Punjab with the backdrop of Punjab politics. Baljit Singh Wadala (Prem Chopra) is the head of the ruling party in Punjab and has two sons. The elder son Vikramjit Singh Wadala (Ramandeep Arya) is following his father's footsteps and is a prominent political leader, while the younger son Jasdeep Singh Wadala (Jimmy Shergill) is a squadron leader in the Indian Air Force. The younger son has a conflict with his father as he had left his father's legacy to join the politics.

A trio of intelligent musketeers, Sunny (Jimmy Shiergill), Tittli (Binnu Dhillon) and ShortGun (Rana Ranbir) who are inimitable in their job as recovery agents, accidentally arrogate Simmi's (Neha Dhupia) scooty. Comprehending the error, Sunny takes up the responsibility of correcting it by returning Simmi her scooty and in the process falls in love with her. Sunny is the tough Punjabi guy who always has to have his own way and cannot take no for an answer, on the other hand Simmi cannot give in easily. She has her own ways for leading life and fancies filmy tricks to consummate quarrels. The twist in the tail comes when Sunny meets Vimmi (Neha Dhupia) and she tries to shoo him away from Simmi. Now the three take the challenge of setting up Sunny and Simmi together as a couple and hence commence the love-hate story.
