Peter (Oakes Fegley) er en vanlig gutt som går i 6. klasse. Han liker å game, å henge med vennene sine, og så elsker han Air Jordans. Men når bestefaren Ed (Robert De Niro), som nylig har blitt enkemann, flytter inn i familiens hus, blir Peter tvunget til å gi bestefar rommet sitt. Peter vil ikke slippe rommet uten kamp og erklærer krig. Gjennom flere utspekulerte skøyerstreker prøver han å erte fienden til å oppgi rommet, men bestefar gir seg heller ikke så lett, og snart er de begge oppslukt av kampen.Filmen er regissert av Tim Hill (som sto bak «Alvin og gjengen» og «Hopp») med en kampklar Robert De Niro i front. De andre rollene inkluderer bl.a Uma Thurman, Rob Riggle, Christopher Walken og Jane Seymour.
